  • cat rescue

A cat was recently rescued by the fire brigade from under a bridge in Leith Edinburgh. This has caused a huge debate.....argument.... RANT in our office.

Is this accepable use of public money or should the cat have been left to find it's own way out or possibly die?

  • Disgrace

My ten year old daughter was overjoyed to be back at school yesterday along with all her friends and hundreds of other children, only to bring home a letter telling us (the parents ) that there is no school today due to industrial action.

Who do these people think they are!!!!

All they are doing is holding a country to ransom (250 000 civil workers on strike in Scotland today). These are the people who can retire at 60 on final salary pension, which is more than any private sector worker is likly to receive.... All this is at the tax payers expense

ARE THEY NOT GRATEFULL FOR WHAT THEY HAVE OR ARE THEY JUST A GREEDY BUNCH OF WHAT NOTS....

In the terrible weather up in Scotland this morning how many are on the picket line...... and how many are at home having a nice warm cup of coffee enjoying the olympics......

IT IS AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE THAT THESE PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED TO STRIKE.....perhaps they should look at the world around them.

  • End of summer

The football season has started again and all the arguments that we heard last year are being repeated all over again......... I guess that means that the summer that never was is now well and truly over.... The kids in Scotland are back to school tomorrow morning and we are all looking forward to Christmas.

  • Haven hell

As a family we like to go camping at least once a year, where we can just load up the trailer, throw the dog in the car and set out for the great out doors. This year we decided to do something slightly different and went to a Haven Camp (Lakelands) so that there would be more for my daughter to do and we were meeting up with some friends. The facilities are absolutly disgusting.

I am one of the fortunate few who get up at 5.30 in the morning to take the dog for a walk, so there is never anyone else awake when I go to use the showers and so forth, so my experiences were not as bad as my wife and childs.

Firstly the camp site was over crowded, the tents and caravans were so close together that every word that was said by your neighbours was clearly heard, as well as everyones snoring, farting and other noises that we wont go into. The fact that there is an entertainment area means that you will always get a bit of noise at night, but the disco only starts at around 11pm, so you have a consistant stream of drunkards trawling through the camp into the early hours. I thought you went to the lake district to go touring and see the sights.

Secondly the weather was not that great (no one to blame for that) and it probably helped to contribute to some of the problems.

The main problem was the female toilets and showers, toilets were broken 1 out of 4 showers were functional and the overall state was totaly disgusting. They had bought another shower block on ebay for £400.00 but apparently this had no hooks or any thing to hang yor towel in the shower cublcals, the space between the floor and partition was almost 2 foot high.

Sometimes the problems are caused by the people on the site but there was such a large amount of people complaining, that it was obvious that the problems were caused by the facilities.

DON'T GO CAMPING AT HAVEN LAKE LANDS...... I am not likely to go near a Haven site again, we will stick to our out of the way quite camps with nothing to do but walk and cycle.

  • The bite

With shaking hands he grabbed her blouse, ripping it from her body with an urgency he had never known before. Quickly he pressed his lips against her naked flesh, forcing his teeth against the skin and sucking hard. He knew time was of the essence because the poison from the mamba that had fallen from the tree on to the womans shoulder would kill her if the venom was not removed.

  • Summers back

The rain is chucking down and I am going camping next week - wish me luck.

  • Waverly steps

I am not sure if it was the thump in my back or the weightless sensation that my body felt as my feet left the stairs that I was desending into Waverly station that brought me back to my senses. I had been in a trance like state from the moment that I stepped out of my office and headed up to the station, a journey that I had done on auto pilot for the past seven years.

That afternoon had been hot, very hot and the humidity was uncomfertable. I had laboured up Leith walk and was looking forward to the escape from the sun that the station offered.

I was half way down the sixty nine steps when I was hit from behind by what I initially thaought was a young woman who had tripped on a stair above. My own self furtune was spared by the fact that I was thrown towards the central railing, instinctivly wrapping my arm around the railing and trying to straighten myself up before crashing on the concrete stairs.

The young lady who had caused my unwanted rush down the stairs had grabbed my other arm and seemed intent on preventing me keeping a tight grip onto the railing that I was now securly attached to.

It was also at this point that I realised that the young woman was connected to someone else. At first I thought they were lovers intent on keeping hold of each other at all costs. The momentum of the three bodies crashing down the steps jolted my shoulder and i thought that the ball had been ripped from the socket. I clung on creating a whip like reaction, which spun the third person on the chain towards the central barrier. His head hit the rail with a dull thud, I heard it rather than saw it, he was immediatly released from the human chain and continued his limp solo journey down the steps.

As I gracefully came to a stop, my arm feeling as though it had been hit by a bus, I somehow managed to remain on my feet, the young woman still clutching my arm had come to a halt slightly less gracefully her short skirt hiked high up her slender thighs..

Pulling her to her feet I realised that she was holding on to her hand bag, I told her that she should have let it go before I disapeared into the now substantial crowd that had gathered around the seamingly lifless body at the bottom of the steps

  • white boy in Africa

Being a young white boy growing up in the early 70's in Africa was great and I have a treasure chest full of interesting stories that keep my daughter entertained, Here is one of my stories I will call it The Gorilla.

One of the places I had the opertunity of living in was a place in Swaziland called Bulembu (havelock) it was a small mining town in the mountains of Swaziland, the roads in and out of the town were dirt and the mine was lined to a South African base by means of a cable cart system through the mountains. As kids we roamed the mountains oblivious to the dangers around. On one sunny afternoon after school we finished some where around lunch time, a group of about 10 of us headed up to our favorite waterfall. This was about a 2 hour trek from the village and the local farmer would give us his donkeys to get up the mountains, we would leave the donkeys at a particular spot and they would find their own way back the the farm. the waterfall was a clod stream of water pouring down about 30 meters of smooth rock into a pool below it was more fun than any shute or slide at any swimming pool that I have been to.

On this particular afternoon as we were gathering up our clothes (yes this was all done naked), we noticed a huge shape swinging across the rocks on the top of the hill above us. Keeping a close eye on the moving beast we hurriedly got dressed and set off towards home. We decided that we would head across the hills towards the road instead of going back down the hill in the direction of the farm, so that we could keep a watch on the monster that appeared to be tracking us. We were aware that we would never out run what we could now identify as a gorilla.

As we headed toward the road, climbing over farm fences, through streams and over rock (we avoided going into the forests as this would limit what we could see) the gorilla kept parallel with us getting slightly closer all the time untill we eventually reached the road. We followed the road (we were still 2or3 miles from home) which went straight into the forest and immediatly lost sight of our predator. Having reached the road however we all relaxed knowing exactly where we were. The forests were home to a variety of wild animals including leopards although they were not going to come near a group of noisy children. We felt safe. The longer we walked on the road and the closer we got to the town the more we started joking about the gorilla and how unafraid we were.

Then as we turned a bend about a mile from town, we heard a crash on the bank above us and there about 4 or 5 meters above us was this huge great black gorilla, in unison we screamed and ran with no regard for each other none of us daring to look back or stop untill we had reached the first row of houses.

We were advised that there were no gorillas in the forests of Swaziland and it must have been a baboon..... To this day I will confirm that it was a gorilla and I know 2 of the other people that were on that afternoon out and they to insist that it was a gorilla.

We still continued going up the mountains to swim in the rivers.....I wish I could still do it today.

  • Good morning

As I rise from the dust, fire running through my heart, I stretch the the last remnants of sleep from my body feeling the strenght of a Zulu warrior surge through my muscles I see the reflection of my glistening body in the mirror out lined with the dawn sun piercing the gaps in the blinds............WOW I must have slept well last night.

Now I am off to conquer the world.

  • Hero

Everyone has a hero and everyone is someone's hero. So for everyone who is feeling down and unappreciated look around at the people closest to you and remember someone thinks you are special.

Have a great day and enjoy the sunshine.
